Several years ago, when I met my husband, he told me that he was an accountant by trade, but a horseman by passion. He proceeded to tell me of all the dogs, cats, rabbits and horses that he shared his life with. As I sat and listened to his stories I thought—‘well, this is not going to work.” I had grown up with two dogs both truly being my grandmothers beloved pets. Benji was a mixed breed with questionable lineage and when he passed Duchess, a long haired dachshund with a crooked tail joined the family. Having basically grown up disconnected from the pets, I didn’t realize there was an animal lover in me just screaming to get out. As Buddy introduced me to his animals, I came to realize that not only did I like animals, I loved them. Then Buddy and I began to talk of getting a dog of our own. I remembered seeing Boxers before and loving their look. Their muscles, beautiful heads and expression filled eyes were features I remembered admiring. After researching and reading, we decided we would look for an older adult female to join our family. We found a five year old female owned by a wonderful breeder who was looking to place her in a family. Patty came to join us in 2000. That was the beginning of my love affair with Boxers. I have known and loved many Boxers, but Patty will forever hold a place in my heart. She knew all my secrets and was my dearest friend. Not to mention she was the first dog to show me how absolutely wonderful it is to be able to share ones life with a Boxer. |
